The Albanian government has applied at the European Commission to benefit a grant of 71 million euros, for the support of agriculture and rural development, in the framework of IPARD 2014-2020 program.

This program has been approved by the European Commission on 20 July 2015 and is funded through the EU contribution in the amount of 71 million euros and co-funding by the Albanian state budget with 24 million euros.

IPARD program aims at supporting farmers, agricultural businesses and food processing businesses, physical or legal persons, micro-businesses and small private non agricultural enterprises to make investments for the production and processing of milk, meat, fruits and vegetables, protected plants and vineyards. The program also aims at supporting investments in aquaculture, natural and rural tourism and production of renewable energy.

Farmers, cooperatives and other businesses which are admitted in this program, may apply and benefit more than once, with the only condition that the total shouldn’t be more than 1,5 million euros.

Before receiving the final payment upon the finalization of the investment, the beneficiary must meet the EU standards for environmental protection and wellbeing of the animals.

The program is expected to support around 2055 investment projects and create around 800 jobs. The program is expected to start in 2017. /balkaneu.com/
