Serbia could in February open new chapters in its EU accession talks, sources in Brussels have announced.
In a statement to Tanjug, officials of the Maltese EU Presidency said they were prepared to proceed to opening the chapters that are technically ready.
The Maltese Presidency is considering the possibility of organising a new intergovernmental conference with Serbia in February to open Chapter 26 on education and culture, read a written statement submitted to Tanjug.
The Council of the EU said its bodies dealing with enlargement-related matters would meet at mid-week next week.
Then more will be known about the member states’ positions on what new chapters in the accession talks could be opened and when that could take place, Tanjug’s diplomatic sources in Brussels said./IBNA
