The Greek basketball family mourns the loss of a very talented player and coach, Giorgos Giannopoulos, who died at the age of 41 on Tuesday after a long and unfair struggle against the cancer.
During his career, Giannopoulos had participated in many teams, and played in A1 Basketball League with the team of Ionikos New Philadelphia during the season 2001-2002. During 2003-2004 he made a wonderful passage from the team of Icarus in Khalkis.
In 2008 he decided to retire from active basketball duty and worked as coach to small Athenian teams, like Koropi and Aghios Thomas.
The Panhellenic Association of Remunerated Basketball Players (PSAK) published an announcement, expressing its deepest condolences to Giannopoulos’s family.
