Greek Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis has spoken of the unacceptable misinformation of the public by members of the “initiative” for the non-extradition of the eight Turkish officers.

It is worth mentioning that the “initiative” for the non – extradition of the eight Turkish officers is organising a gathering in favour of their non-extradition to Turkey. The gathering will take place on January 5, 2017, at 6:30 pm at the old EAT-ESA barracks (Liberty Park).

The Greek Justice Minister in reference to the announcement of the “initiative” stated that “there would be no reason to comment on the statement of the so called group initiative for the non-extradition of the eight Turks, accused of being involved in the attempted coup, because of the planned event.” This is because “it is the right of every citizen to express their views either individually or as a member of a collective freely and without restrictions.”

The Minister added that it is “unacceptable that the members of the “initiative” misinform the public by claiming that “the government’s efforts in intervening in the work of Justice are well known”, especially since the Appeals Council issued conflicting decisions on the question of the extradition and no government statement on the matter has existed throughout the process and until the final decisions”./IBNA
