At 19:30 pm Wednesday will take place the vote for the President of the Republic. This is the decision that has reportedly reached House Speaker Zoe Konstantopoulou, after consultation with the government.

Konstantopoulou called “the convening of the plenary in a Special Meeting on February 18, 2015, Wednesday, at 19.30 in the afternoon, with the sole purpose of conducting a roll call vote to elect the President of the Republic, with the majority of three-fifths of the total number of MPs”.

The name of the candidate for the High State Office will be discussed at the meeting of the Parliamentary Group of SYRIZA to be held on Tuesday at 4.00 pm, while at the same time the Parliamentary Group of the other coalition party, ANEL will also convene.

The House that emerged from elections that were caused due to failure to elect the President of the Republic, will go to a roll call vote needing a majority of three fifths of the total number of MPs (180 MPs).

If this majority is not reached, the vote shall be repeated within five days (and not later than five days) and as President of the Republic will be elected the person who will receive an absolute majority of the total number of MPs (ie 151 votes).

If again the required majority is not reached, the vote is repeated this time in five days, between the two candidates who got the most votes in previous procedures and as President of the Republic is elected the person who receives a relative majority.
