Interview with Ziadin Sela, leader of the Alliance for Albanians coalition
Ziadin Sela is leader of LR-PDSH (Movement for Reforms-PDSH) and leader of the coalition which consists of three parties. In the last elections, this coalition raced under the logo of the Alliance for Albanians Coalition, winning three seats in parliament. Sela is one of the signatories of the platform of Albanian parliamentary parties and according to him, this platform will act as a condition for the creation of the government.
In this interview for IBNA, Mr. Sela says that after the failure of the VMRO-DPMNE leader, Nikola Gruevski, to form the government, the leader of SDSM (Macedonian Social Democratic Union), Zoran Zaev has a chance to form a government with the Albanians, but the main condition is the political platform which focuses on making Albanian an official language in FYROM.
Interviewed by Naser Pajaziti
IBNA: The country continues to be in a crisis, as we have obstacles in the creation of the government after the 11 December elections. Gruevski could not manage to form the government and now we have a vacuum. How will this situation be solved?
Sela: According to the Constitution, Gruevski had 20 days to form the government, but he couldn’t manage to do this. It is better like this, because it would be absurd for the government to be formed by someone who campaigned for Albanians to be deprived of their rights. Afterwards, he demanded from Albanian parties to enable him to form the government. Now, the president of the country, George Ivanov must hand the mandate to the second largest party, in order not to waste any time.
IBNA: Thus, you say that the mandate should be given to the leader of SDSM, Zoran Zaev. Are you ready to enter a coalition with this party and what are the conditions?
Sela: We have been clear before and after the elections. We’re in favor of an agreement only if before forming a government, a bill is voted which makes Albanian language an official language throughout the country, which reviews the budget and extends the deadline for the investigations of the Special Prosecution. We’ve entered politics to make commitments and not just for government posts. Our priority is to advance the rights that contain the platform signed by the three political parties.
IBNA: But SDSM of Zoran Zaev is not reacting about the platform signed by Albanian parties?
Sela: Our conditions are reasonable conditions and there’s no room for compromise. It is important to vote the bill which makes the Albanian language fully official and make constitutional changes that make Albanians equal in this country. We will not give up and we are not compromising with our requests, which are part of the Platform. Our requests have nothing to do with projects or ideas for federations or confederations.
IBNA: VMRO-DPMNE is insisting for the country to head to elections, as it failed in the creation of the government and is against the idea of offering the mandate to SDSM. How do you consider this?
Sela: We are very clear on this. If someone wants to take the country to early elections in order to avoid the realization of the platform of Albanian parties, we will boycott the elections. In this case, we will consider the possibility of creating our capacities to build institutions, such as parliament, by not ruling out the idea of federalization.
IBNA: How do you consider the messages of the international community that the country has no time to waste?
Sela: This country is years behind. If today we were a member of NATO, the situation would be different. Many scenarios and conspiracy theories for the destabilization of the country, would not exist. Macedonia has no time to waste and there must be a sustainable political government. The early elections would not be a solution, as they would only deepen the crisis. The new government must be created by trying to solve the issue of the name dispute with Greece. This way, the country would become part of euroatlantic structures. /balkaneu.com/
