Republic of Kosovo has been officially accepted as observer in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. This decision has been taken in Lithuania, where the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is taking place.

Former speaker of the parliament of Kosovo, Xhavit Haliti is staying in Lithuania:

“I’m very happy about the decision taken by NATO Parliamentary Assembly in favor of Kosovo and about its determination to become a NATO member, a mechanism which along with KLA, succeeded in liberating Kosovo from the Serb occupation. On this occasion, on behalf of Kosovo, I had the honor to address to the participants, to thank the president of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Mr. Hugh Bayley and all member countries”, says Haliti.

He adds that “I strongly believe that soon, the Republic of Kosovo will be an equal member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly to the other countries”.

According to Haliti, the granting of this status will facilitate in the future the admission of the Army of Kosovo in the NATO.

Present as representative of Albania was the socialist MP, Pandeli Majko.

Prime minister Hashim Thaci has also reacted: “It’s a great pleasure to hear the news of the admission of Kosovo as observer in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. This decision has been taken during the spring session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Lithuania and provides hope about Kosovo’s integration in this alliance”. /ibna/
