US Congressman, Elliot Engel held a meeting today with the president of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga.
After this meeting, Engel considered Kosovo as a success story, praising the achievements of the young state.
Engel said that partnership between Kosovo and USA is important and said that Kosovo must continue its efforts in building a democratic society.
On the other hand, the president of the country praised the role and engagement of the congressman, Engel for Kosovo and its perspective and the constant support of the USA for a democratic and developed state.
Jahjaga said that Kosovo has gone through an uneasy period during the past year, in an effort to address domestic issues, including illegal migration, progress in the domain of integration, fight against corruption and organized crime, etc.
Jahjaga said that the talks which are being held in Brussels are important for solving pending issues between the two countries, but also said that the implementation of the agreements achieved so far is equally important.
According to Jahjaga, Serbia’s progress must be conditioned with the implementation of all the agreements that have been achieved in the talks.
Jahjaga said that like all countries of the region, Kosovo too must have a clear European perspective and that the entire Balkan region must be involved in EU energy and infrastructural projects.
As far as the Special Tribunal is concerned, president Jahjaga added that she’s expecting from the institutions of the country, the government and parliament to urgently find a way to meet international obligations. /ibna/
