The vice chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs in the US Congress, Elliot Engel says that the current leader of the opposition is bringing a new and positive spirit in Albanian politics.
Mr. Engel and US ambassador, Donald Lu visited the opposition headquarters today where they were received by the leader of this party, Lulzim Basha.
The free and honest elections, crime and drugs backed by the state and widespread corruption, were some of the main concerns raised by Mr. Basha in this meeting.
Congressman Engel praised Mr. Basha for his leadership in the process of constitutional amendments and the positive signal that the political will offers for the European integration of the country.
In this context, Mr. Basha said that the DP continues to offers its contribution in the legal framework, which cannot and must not violate constitutional provisions approved on 22 July consensually.
On his part ,Basha stopped on next year’s elections. “For the democracy and stability in Albania, free and honest elections, especially the prevention of the purchase of votes, the role of crime and gangs and free media are the biggest priority, along with the rule of law, which means respect for the Constitution and the application of the laws”. /balkaneu.com/
