German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated today Aleksandar Vucic the handover of Serbian premiership and invited him to official visit to Berlin. Merkel emphasized that her government would continue to support firmly Serbian path to reforms and Euro-integration.
“Dear Mr. Prime Minister, I warmly congratulate you taking office. I wish to you and to citizens of your country a lot of strength and determination for the upcoming tasks, especially conducting the necessary reforms”, Merkel stated in her greeting card.
Merkel has underlined that the successes in the listed efforts would give new impulses in the process of Serbian accession to European Union and contribute to further normalization of the relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
“On this path, Federal Government will continue its firm support to your country. It would be my pleasure to welcome you in visit to Berlin. I wish you all the best, a lot of luck and success in tackling the issues that are before you”, Merkel wrote.
Germany insists on normalization of the relations between Belgrade and Pristina as the key precondition for accession of Serbia to EU. Full normalization would encompass legally binding agreement between Belgrade and Pristina.
Following Vucic’s Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) landslide victory in March elections, the rapporteur of Merkel’s CDU and Christian Social Union for Foreign Policies, Philipp Missfelder said that Serbia is on the right path toward the European Union and demanded for Belgrade to recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
Vucic endeavors to establish the best possible relations between Serbia and Germany. During the electoral campaign he has met former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl and founded Serbia-Germany Forum that would be focused on the perspectives of economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
Forum opening ceremony in Belgrade was attended by former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. Schroeder is honorary member of the organization.
