Council of Europe Secretary General, Thorbjorn Jagland, informed the director of the International Festival “Sarajevo Winter”, Ibrahim Spahic, that he will be glad to take the patronage over issue 33 of this important Festival.
In the letter of confirmation was said that the Council of Europe in last 25 years identified values promoted on Festival as the promotion of the European cultural identity and diversity.
“In a letter, Council of Europe Secretary General stated that the Festival is in accordance to the activities and values of the Council of Europe and that is why Mr Jagland gladly accepted to be the patron of this year’s festival”, announced management of the Festival.
The manifestation will be opened on Tuesday evening in Sarajevo and the honor to announce the events had the quartet of accordions of High Music School Sarajevo, and Hana Smajic, student of the Primary Music School “Mladen Pozajic”. At the press conference on Monday in Sarajevo, they performed a mini concert and announced that this year’s edition of the Festival will be held under the motto “Silk Road Art”.
These young artists will be on Tuesday, in Sarajevo City Hall, with the most talented students of music schools in the Canton of Sarajevo, to participate in the concert called “Talents of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the silk road of art”. The visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the performances of compositions at 17 different instruments and in different styles.
The concert was announced by the director of the Central Music School, Melita Cicic, and Director of Elementary music school “Mladen Pozajic”, Mustafa Mujbegovic. They said that the event is actually a true representation of successful cooperation between music schools that their intention is to provide continuity of the musical education of young talents. Emphasizing the importance of music education in BiH, whose students regularly win prestigious awards at international competitions, they invited citizens to attend this event, and confirm that Sarajevo is a city of culture.
Director of the Festival “Sarajevo Winter”, Ibrahim Spahic, said that this concert will mark the beginning of the opening ceremony of the Festival. This year, Festival will last until 21 March, and visitors will have the opportunity to see a multitude of cultural events with the participation of artists from around the world.
The official part of the opening ceremony will take place in the evening at the National Theatre in Sarajevo, when the first exhibition “Diversity, Creativity and Community” will be exposed to the public. It will be followed by remarks by Ambassador of India to BiH. Rahul Chhabra, the sponsor of the Festival. Also, the public will be able to see a performance of Indian dance and “The Dance of Weaves – Silk in India.”
During the festival, Spahic said, once again will be pointed to the need for nomination of Sarajevo as the cultural capital of Europe. He added that one of priorities for that is the construction of a concert hall in Marijin Dvor, which would be a home for all the musicians not only from BiH but also the region. Spahic emphasized that the project for its construction is ready for 16 years.
Festival director said that it is important because, without culture as the substance of Sarajevo, “we will continue to walk with ropes around our necks”.
According to tradition, every year the Festival opens its doors for public on February 7, date when 1984. Winter Olimpic Games in Sarajevo were opened./IBNA
