After the demolition of the wall in Mitrovica, Serb representatives in Kosovo have demanded the start of procedures for the creation of the Association of Serb Communes.
This request comes from the leader of the Serb List, Slavko Simic who demands from the authorities in Pristina to establish this institution, as it has acted with the demolition of the wall.
“With the demolition of the wall, Serbs of Kosovo showed that they’re in favor of peace and cohabitation. Therefore, Kosovo’s authorities must also testify that they are working for this. Time has come for the Association to be established in order to advance the rights of Serbs in this country”, he said.
The idea of the establishment of the Association was also backed by the EU ambassador to Kosovo, Natalya Apostolova.
She said that the Association should be established with the same will that the wall was demolished.
“We are also looking into the possibility to start discussions for the creation of the Association of Serb Communes with the same commitment that was shown for the demolition of the wall. I hope that we will have good results”, Apostolova declared.
Meanwhile, opposition in Kosovo is against the establishment of the Association of Serb Communes. The opposition has warned that it would hold protests if such project is implemented by the government.
The agreement for the establishment of this mechanism was reached in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia.
A part of this agreement was considered to be in line with the Constitution by the Constitutional Court.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa has warned the start of the implementation of the agreement for the creation of the Association of Serb Communes.
“We will start with the implementation of the Agreement for the Association of Serb Communes. The Association will be established by the institutions of Kosovo in line with procedures set up by the Constitutional Court and with the full involvement of Serb representatives in the institutions of Kosovo”, the PM said. /balkaneu.com/
