Central Election Commission in Kosovo declared today that the mayors of four northern communes have decided to suspend all electoral activities due to CEC decisions. They claim that these decisions break the law and violate the rights of national minorities in the country.

“Based on the changes made by CEC, relating to the composition of the poll centers, changes which have been made in violation with the ethnic composition of the population in our communes, but also the changes on the lists and  failure to comply with the regulation in power which determines deadlines and CEC guidelines, we have decided to suspend all electoral activities indefinitely. With this step, we’re aiming for CEC to withdraw from its decisions”, reads the joint statement issued today by the four mayors of the northern communes of Kosovo.

According to them, if Albanians have the right to be part of the poll center councils in the north of Kosovo, then the same right must also be given to Serbs in the south of Kosovo.

They have also demanded the removal of state symbols from ballot papers.

“Serbs of the north want to take destiny in their own hands and participate in the elections. But what CEC is doing is an example of discrimination and racism. If our requests are not met, we will be forced, in coordination with the citizens, revise our decision to participate in these elections”, declared the four mayors of the northern communes of Kosovo. /ibna/
