UEFA has launched an official inquiry on match fixing relating to Skenderbeu of Korca. This inquiry is based on the comments made by different fans on Facebook.
This is the first time that such serious institution like UEFA, launches in inquiry based on social networks hearsay. After collecting a number of comments on Facebook, UEFA has also exchanged information with Albanian and foreign bookies, in an effort to find a link between the victories of Skenderbeu with the suspicions for match fixing.
The Albanian Super League champion, Skenderbeu too admits that it is being investigated by UEFA for match fixing.
In a press release, Skenderbeu football club said that “we have been informed by UEFA to appear in a hearing and offer explanations in relation to an inquiry that is taking place on our club by the biggest European football organization”.
UEFA’s inspectors have cast doubts on the Skenderbeu’s results in several matches of the Albanian league (against Partizani, Teuta, Tirana, Vllaznia) and in the European cups.
According to the materials made available, the inquiry has started based on the allusions in social networks by fans belonging to KF Skenderbeu’s rivals and by different media, the statement of the club says.
“We have evaluated this situation and we will offer explanations to inspectors and we will convince them that we have earned everything based on merit and that our results have always been deserved”.
“We are calm, because we know how serious we are in our work. At the same time, we are making all the necessary preparations to make a decent presentation in European cups”, the statement of the southeastern club says, also known as the Snow Wolves. /balkaneu.com/
